THIS EXCUSE DID NOT GO WELL IN COURT!
A Credit Card Dispute and Conflicting Stories
Imagine a courtroom where every detail is scrutinized.
Every word matters.
This is Judge Judy's courtroom.

The Plaintiff Seeks $7,000
Mr. Maguire is the plaintiff.
He is suing Ms. Manus, the defendant.
He claims she charged $7,000 on his debit card.
This happened while she lived with him.

The Defendant's Background Raises Questions
Judge Judy first questions Ms. Manus.
She is 46 years old.
Her last full-time job was in 2014.
She says she did odd jobs.
She also claims she was paid by the state.
This payment was for caring for her 96-year-old grandmother.
Her grandmother had heart problems.
Her sister now cares for the grandmother.

A Whirlwind Romance and a Quick Move-In
Ms. Manus met Mr. Maguire online in August 2016.
They met in person 12 hours later.
She moved in with him immediately.
She had been living with her grandmother.
Her 19-year-old son was also there.
The state payments for her grandmother's care stopped in September.
This was after she moved out.

The Plaintiff's Living Situation
Mr. Maguire lives in a double-wide mobile home.
He owns it.
He has lived there for over a year.
He previously lived with a friend.
Then he lived with Ms. Manus.
Ms. Manus's friend from overseas later moved in.
Mr. Maguire gave permission.
The friend was supposed to help with bills.

Mr. Maguire's Financial Background
Mr. Maguire is 48 years old.
He received a $44,000 disability settlement.
This was in October 2016.
He was injured on the job.
His last full-time work was in 2012 or 2013.
He did odd jobs like mowing and landscaping.
This was while appealing his disability denial.
He lived with his sister during this time.

The Mobile Home Purchase
Judge Judy questions how he bought his mobile home.
He said he bought it in September 2016.
This was before his disability settlement.
Mr. Maguire clarifies this point.
He bought the mobile home with a worker's comp settlement.
He received $119,000 in June 2016 from this.

The Alleged $7,000 in Charges
Mr. Maguire claims Ms. Manus charged $7,000.
These charges were on his debit card.
They occurred from October to January or February.
All charges happened while they lived together.
He says she took his debit card from his wallet.
This happened while he was asleep.
His son, Matthew Maguire, is a witness to this.
Mr. Maguire states he has proof of these charges.

Judge Judy's Observation on Monitoring Accounts
Mr. Maguire admits he does not check his debit card statements monthly.
Judge Judy points out this is "his problem."
She implies this lack of oversight is a significant issue.

The Defendant's Counterclaim
Ms. Manus has a counterclaim.
She says Mr. Maguire did not let her take her belongings.
This happened when she moved out.
She had to file charges.
She also rented trucks to retrieve her items.
The Defendant's Conflicting Disability Claims
Ms. Manus admits she paid no rent.
She claims she has been disabled since 2014.
This was due to a botched surgery.
Judge Judy then highlights a major contradiction.
Ms. Manus claimed she was a state-paid caregiver for her grandmother.
She said this continued until September.
This was after she met Mr. Maguire.
But she also claims to be disabled since 2014.
Judge Judy questions how she could be both.
She couldn't be receiving disability for herself.
And also be paid by the state to care for someone else.
Judge Judy dismisses her from the stand.
