The Unpaid Utilities

Judge Judy asks about an agreement for expenses.

Ms. Stiff denies any agreement to pay half of the expenses.

She states they were going to split utilities.

She claims she paid all utilities for the first half of the year.

Judge Judy asks for proof.

Ms. Stiff says she has the printouts in her briefcase but left them at home.

Judge Judy points out that Ms. Stiff knew about the counterclaim for unpaid expenses.

She should have brought the evidence.

Mr. Stiff claims the agreement was for Ms. Stiff to pay half of utilities, provide lunches, and buy food.

He says she did none of that.

Ms. Stiff denies this agreement.

She states Mr. Stiff knew she had no income.

Judge Judy reminds Ms. Stiff that she is no longer Mr. Stiff's responsibility.

She asks about Ms. Stiff's financial contribution to the house.

Ms. Stiff states it was one half of the utilities.

Judge Judy asks Ms. Stiff to estimate the utility costs.

Ms. Stiff says it varied.

The house is 3,000 square feet.

Judge Judy estimates utilities for a house that size are at least $650 a month.

She notes that during the summer, it could be $700 a month.

During other seasons, it was more like $300 total.

Judge Judy asks how many months Ms. Stiff did not contribute.
