A Family Dispute Over Abandoned Property

Imagine being homeless.

Then imagine a family member offers you a place to stay.

Now imagine that arrangement sours, and you end up in Judge Judy's courtroom.

That is the situation Miss Williams finds herself in.

She is suing her niece, Patricia.

Miss Williams claims Patricia has two televisions that belong to her.

She wants them back.

Patricia, the defendant, says Miss Williams abandoned the TVs.

She claims she no longer has them.

From Homelessness to Her Niece's Apartment

Miss Williams tells Judge Judy she was homeless.

She was sleeping outside.

Her niece, Patricia, offered her shelter.

Miss Williams moved in with Patricia in March.

She was supposed to take over Patricia's apartment.

Patricia never left.

Miss Williams was homeless before moving in.

She had a source of income.

She received Social Security.

The amount was $735.

Patricia was living with her boyfriend.

Her daughter was not there.

Miss Williams did not pay rent in March.

In April, she paid $600.

She gave it directly to the landlord.

This was for the rent.

In May, Miss Williams paid $300.

This was half the rent.

Why Miss Williams Left Patricia's Home

Miss Williams left in June.

She went to visit family.

When she returned, Patricia told her she was not running a house.

Patricia did not like Miss Williams' hours.

Miss Williams' rent was paid.

She says Patricia did not explicitly ask her to leave.

But Miss Williams did leave.

She went to stay with her daughter.

Her daughter lives in Essexville.

Patricia lived on the east side.

Miss Williams is not currently with her daughter.

She is in South Jackson.

She lives in a house.

She lives with Wallace and his wife, Colleen.

Wallace and Colleen are her witnesses.

Miss Williams has not paid rent at Colleen's.

She had a tent in Colleen's backyard.

She was sleeping in the backyard.

This continued until September.

She had surgery on September 21st.

Now she is inside Colleen's house.

The Mystery of the Missing Televisions

Miss Williams first asked for her TVs back in July.

This was in the middle of July.

Her property had been at Patricia's for a month.

Judge Judy asks about the TVs' purchase.

Miss Williams says she had a 24-month lease for them.

Judge Judy points out Miss Williams was homeless.

She questions how Miss Williams had TVs while homeless.

Miss Williams is unsure when she bought them.

Judge Judy asks when the monthly payment schedule started.

Miss Williams says 2017.

Judge Judy asks where the TVs were in 2017.

Miss Williams was homeless then.

Miss Williams says the TVs were at Patricia's house.

Judge Judy clarifies.

She asks if the TVs were at Patricia's before Miss Williams moved in.

Miss Williams says no.

She then corrects herself.

She says she moved in March 2018.

She initially said 2017.

Judge Judy notes that if payments started in 2017, the TVs had to be somewhere.

Miss Williams then says she didn't pay for them in 2017.

She says it was before then.

Patricia's Side of the Story

Patricia states she does not have the televisions.

She is no longer in Bay City.

She tried to return the TVs before she left.

She says Miss Williams left them at her house.

Patricia tried to contact Miss Williams.

She has documentation of her attempts.

She says one TV was 32 inches.

The other was 36 inches.

One had a broken screen.

The other was in her closet.

Miss Williams disputes this.
