THIS PLAINTIFF'S STORY DID NOT ADD UP!

An Engagement Ring Dispute Lands in Court

Imagine trying to get your engagement ring back.

Now imagine Judge Judy questioning every detail of your story.

That is exactly what happened in this courtroom.

The Plaintiff Seeks His Property

Mr. McNeil is the plaintiff.

He is suing Miss Jones, the defendant.

They lived together for about three and a half years.

Mr. McNeil says he gave Miss Jones an engagement ring.

They were engaged to be married.

He lived with Miss Jones and her children.

Their apartment was above a grocery store Miss Jones owns.

The relationship ended.

Mr. McNeil moved out.

He claims Miss Jones kept some of his property.

This included the engagement ring and a basketball hoop.

The Missing Engagement Ring and Basketball Hoop

Mr. McNeil tells Judge Judy about the basketball hoop.

He paid about $480 for it.

He bought it in May of 2015 from Walmart.

His son and Miss Jones's daughter used it.

He says it was primarily for his son's use.

Judge Judy quickly moves past the basketball hoop.

She focuses on the engagement ring.

She dismisses any claim for miscellaneous tools.

Mr. McNeil has no pictures to prove they were left behind.

"Where's the Ring?" Judge Judy Asks

Judge Judy turns to Miss Jones.

"Where's the ring?"

she asks directly.

Miss Jones responds.

"I don't have the ring, Your Honor."

She explains that Mr. McNeil had the choice to get all his belongings.

She says he had bought watches and rings.

"It was all in the drawer," Miss Jones states.

"He took everything he had that he wanted to take on his own."

"I haven't seen it since he left."

Mr. McNeil left in April.

Miss Jones says she stopped wearing the ring months ago.

She claims she "never really wore it along the length of time anyhow."

She received the ring in 2014.

They never married due to lack of funding, she explains.

Contradictory Claims About Jewelry

Mr. McNeil denies taking all his jewelry.

He specifically mentions watches he bought for Miss Jones.

He clarifies that the watch he is wearing is new.

He asks Miss Jones to show proof she has the ring.

Judge Judy points to a picture.

It shows Miss Jones wearing the ring.

Mr. McNeil confirms it was taken before he left in April.

He tells Judge Judy that Miss Jones's credibility is not reliable.

He claims she lied about being divorced.

The Ring's Cost and Living Arrangements

Mr. McNeil states he paid $1,400 for the ring.

He claims he has proof of this payment.

Judge Judy then asks about the living arrangement.

Specifically, she asks about rent.

Mr. McNeil says there was no rent arrangement.

"There was never established," he states.

They did not have a joint bank account.

Mr. McNeil's Work for Miss Jones

Mr. McNeil claims he worked for Miss Jones.

He says he worked "40 plus hours" a week.

Miss Jones disputes this.

She says he worked about 20-25 hours a week at her store.

This was only for a couple of months.

She says he stopped working there around August 2015.

"It wasn't working out," she explains.

Miss Jones states Mr. McNeil got another job after that.

Then he quit or was fired.

He "just sat around," she recalls.

She remembers it was a factory job for about two months.

Mr. McNeil denies getting a job around August.

He states he worked for RTR.

Judge Judy Questions the Timeline

Mr. McNeil says he got his current job in February.

He left Miss Jones in April.

Judge Judy points out a problem.

If he got a new job in February, he couldn't have been working 60 hours a week at Miss Jones's grocery store.

Mr. McNeil insists he worked 40+ hours.

He accuses Miss Jones of lying.

Judge Judy's Patience Wears Thin

Judge Judy becomes visibly frustrated.

Mr. McNeil is evasive about his work schedule.

She threatens to throw out his case.

She asks how much he paid for his upkeep in February and March.

This is when he was working elsewhere.

Mr. McNeil claims he paid $200 a month.

Miss Jones denies this $200 figure.

She states he gave her about $500 each month in February and March.

Mr. McNeil denies giving Miss Jones $500 each month.

The Case is Dismissed

Judge Judy dismisses Mr. McNeil's case.

After the dismissal, Mr. McNeil claims Miss Jones told him he wasn't getting anything back.

Miss Jones calls Mr. McNeil a "fraud."

She says he is probably more angry with himself.

Judge Judy tells them the "love affair is over."

She advises them to "go find happiness elsewhere."
