A Dog Attack Claim Lands in Court

Imagine going to buy a speaker and leaving with a dog bite.

That is the claim brought before Judge Judy.

The Plaintiff Seeks Damages

He is suing Alicia Beckyu.

Ms. Beckyu is the defendant.

Mr. Navarro claims he was attacked by one of her dogs.

He is seeking actual and punitive damages.

The Incident at the House

Mr. Navarro went to Ms. Beckyu's house.

He was there to look at a speaker she was selling.

He claims that while there, one of her dogs bit him.

The incident happened on December 29, 2015.

The Garage and the Dogs

Mr. Navarro went to the garage.

It was wide open.

He states there were two large dogs in the garage.

He confirms these were not the dogs that bit him.

He says a third dog was involved.

The Third Dog's Appearance

Judge Judy asks where the third dog came from.

Mr. Navarro states it came from inside the house.

He says Ms. Beckyu opened the door.

Judge Judy asks Ms. Beckyu why she opened the door.

Ms. Beckyu says Mr. Navarro asked her to put her "sampenade" into the house.

She states that when she opened the door, the other dog came out.

Bite or Nip?

Judge Judy notes the dog was an Australian Terrier.

She observes that if you are the victim, it is a bite.

If you are the owner, it is a nip.

Evidence Presented

Judge Judy asks Mr. Navarro if he has photographs of the "nip."

He confirms he does.

She then asks if he has a doctor's report.

He confirms he has one.

Judge Judy states she wants to see both.

Contacting the Defendant

He states his lawyer contacted her.

Judge Judy asks if there was any resolution.

Mr. Navarro says his lawyer requested a meeting for a resolution.

He states Ms. Beckyu never came to the meeting.

The Defendant's Explanation

Judge Judy asks Ms. Beckyu if she has anything to say.

Ms. Beckyu claims Mr. Navarro asked her to bring the dog into the house.

She says the dog could have stayed where it was.

She clarifies it was an unleashed dog, not the one that bit him.

Ms. Beckyu explains her defense.

She says Mr. Navarro asked her to put the other dog inside.

She claims this was because the dog was barking.

She states she accommodated him by opening the door.

A Disputed Account of Events

Ms. Beckyu claims she asked Mr. Navarro to stay out on the driveway.

She says she asked him not to come into her garage.

She states she turned around to unleash a dog.

She was going to put that dog into the house.

She claims Mr. Navarro was behind her.

She says the dog started barking.

She clarifies this was not the dog that bit him.

She states the dog in the house started barking.

She claims Mr. Navarro started screaming.

She says she turned around and told him to stop.

She told him to stay right there.

She explains that screaming alerts a dog.

She believes it shows fear.

She says dogs then get on the defense.

Judge Judy's Challenge

Judge Judy interjects.

She states she has dogs.

She says her dogs do not get on the defense if you show them you are scared.

Ms. Beckyu tries to respond.

Judge Judy suggests it might be Ms. Beckyu's dog.
