THIS EXCUSE DID NOT GO WELL IN COURT!
A Stolen Dirt Bike Leads to Court
Imagine your dirt bike is stolen.

Then you find it in someone else's yard.
That is what brings Mr. Orion to Judge Judy's courtroom.
The Plaintiff's Stolen Bike
Mr. Orion is the plaintiff.
He tells Judge Judy his dirt bike was stolen.
He bought the bike around 2009 or 2010.
He paid about $2,400 for it.
The bike was stolen from his yard.
This happened between October 20th and October 28th of the previous year.
Mr. Orion was on vacation at the time.

He discovered the theft when he returned home.
He confirms he has the VIN number for his bike.
He presents a photograph of his motorcycle.
Judge Judy examines the picture.
She asks if it's a motorized mountain bike.
Mr. Orion clarifies it's a dirt bike.
The Defendants' Story
Jessica Starbuck and Mr. Soul are the defendants.
Jessica Starbuck states she bought a dirt bike in April 2018.
She says she put out word that she was looking for a dirt bike for her daughter.

A friend named Mario called her.
Mario was a former neighbor.
He was also a customer at the restaurant where she and Mr. Soul worked.
Mario offered her a "damaged" dirt bike for $400.
She admits Mario told her the bike did not have a title.
Mr. Soul testifies he owns another dirt bike.
He bought that one from a friend named Ken for about $800.
He traded parts for a quad for it.
Jessica Starbuck says Mr. Soul told her to check the VIN number.

He wanted to make sure it wasn't stolen.
This was because the price was so cheap.
Also, there was no title.
She called a local pawn shop.
They could not check the VIN without the physical bike.
Jessica Starbuck admits she "blew it off."
She bought the bike anyway.
The Mediation Revelation
Mr. Soul states that during mediation, he became convinced.
He believed Jessica had accidentally bought the plaintiff's bike.

This was due to pictures and repairs mentioned by the plaintiff.
He claims the sheriff said the VIN number didn't match.
Then he clarifies that the bike returned to the plaintiff has the same VIN number as the plaintiff's title.
Mr. Soul admits he was a "fool."
He returned the bike without seeing the plaintiff's title.
The plaintiff had claimed his title was lost.
Judge Judy Questions the Purchase
Judge Judy asks Jessica Starbuck why she would think to check if the bike was stolen.
This was if it was a legitimate sale.
Jessica Starbuck replies it was because there was no title.

Judge Judy asks what she did.
Jessica Starbuck says she called a local pawn shop.
They told her they couldn't check the numbers without the physical bike.
Judge Judy asks what she did next.
Jessica Starbuck says she "blew it off."
She bought the bike.
The Plaintiff's Evidence
Mr. Orion presents a picture of his motorcycle.
The picture is from July 23, 2017.
It has metadata.

This proves he had the bike before the defendants claimed to purchase it.
Mr. Orion states the police came out in March regarding the bike.
This contradicts the defendants' claim of purchasing it in April.
The Police Report Contradiction
Judge Judy reviews a police report.
It is dated June 22nd.
It details an officer's visit to Jessica Starbuck's property on March 12th.
The report states Jessica Starbuck invited the officer to see the motorcycle.
This happened in her backyard in March.
The police report states Jessica Starbuck told the officer she had purchased the motorcycle recently.

But she did not know the name of the seller.
The report notes Mr. Soul began yelling at the officer.
He told the officer to get off his property.
Judge Judy confronts Jessica Starbuck.
She points out the lie about the purchase date.
She also confronts Mr. Soul about his behavior towards the police.
Judge Judy states she does not believe them.
She says if someone gets a good deal on an item, like a Rolex for $20, they know it's either fake or stolen.
She tells them she might have believed they were "two dopes that got duped."

But they lied.
Jessica Starbuck denies lying.
Judge Judy insists she did.
She highlights Mr. Soul's reaction to the police.
She calls it "outrageous."
An innocent person would not respond that way.
Especially when police are following up on stolen property.
She says she doesn't believe people who talk to police officers that way.
