Case File

Man Loses Temper on Date (Page 2 of 2)

Judge Judy explains the case was dismissed because he complied.

He effectively admitted guilt.

He agreed to keep his nose clean.

Mr. Madcap says that was the arrangement with his lawyer and the judge.

The anger management course was six sessions, once a week.

Judge Judy Challenges the Self-Defense Claim

Judge Judy states people only go through anger management if they have a problem.

Mr. Madcap disagrees.

She says otherwise, one would say, "I'm not guilty.

I'm going to trial."

Mr. Madcap claims it was self-defense.

He says he wanted to go to trial.

He claims his lawyer explained things to him.

Judge Judy cuts him off.

She says he is a smart guy.

He would say, "I'm not guilty."

He would not accept consequences.

Mr. Madcap claims Mr. Miller made a sweeping motion.

He says Mr. Miller was going to hit him.

He punched him first.

He considers that self-defense.

He says his attorney did not give him that option.

His attorney said the case was clear.

Judge Judy clarifies that his attorney has nothing to do with options.

She says his attorney told him it was the best deal.

Six weeks of anger management.

Stay out of trouble.

The case would be dismissed and sealed.

She says that was the best thing for him.

She tells him he also has to pay for Mr. Miller's dental work.

Mr. Madcap says no.

Judge Judy says yes.

The False Arrest Claim

Judge Judy notes no cross-claim for false arrest.

Mr. Madcap was arrested.

He was held in jail.

He confirms this.

He did not file a claim for false arrest.

He just wanted everything to be over.

That is why he took the deal.

That is why he did not go to trial.

Judge Judy states he did not go to trial because he was guilty.

He punched Mr. Miller in the face.

He had a couple of drinks.

His date was "a little looped" and disrespecting him.

Mr. Madcap denies this.

Judge Judy Reads Mr. Madcap's Own Words

Judge Judy reads from Mr. Madcap's statement.

He wrote that Emily disappeared again while he was smoking.

He saw her "hanging off a man."

That man was the plaintiff.

Emily had her body pressed to his.

It looked like they were kissing.

Emily had been looking for trouble all night.

He couldn't allow her to enter the club with another man.

Judge Judy notes there was nothing about a "sweeping motion" in his answer.

She continues reading his statement.

He looked Mr. Miller in the face.

He told him to leave her alone.

Mr. Miller told him to back off and shoved him.

Mr. Miller then raised his fist.

Mr. Madcap punched him before he could hit him.

He wrote that three other guys were coming towards him.

He ran away because he was terrified of being jumped.

Mr. Madcap confirms this is true.

The "Gang" Claim

Judge Judy asks if he means Mr. Miller's "gang."

She asks if his "gang" was coming after him.

She asks if it was because he was beating up their leader.

Mr. Madcap denies this.

Judge Judy says it did not seem that way to her.

She sarcastically says she loves that he was beating up his leader.

She suggests Mr. Miller might be capable of leading a gang.

Judge Judy's Summary

Judge Judy tells Mr. Madcap he was drunk.

He had been "dissed" by his girlfriend.

He used bad judgment.

He took six weeks of anger management classes.

He kept his nose clean.

His case got dismissed.

That does not make him not guilty.

Emily's Account

Judge Judy asks Emily if she remembers that evening.

Emily confirms she does.

She had a couple of drinks.

Judge Judy asks why she was bothering with Mr. Miller.

Emily says he was walking down the sidewalk.

He looked really upset.

She asked him what was wrong.

They started talking.

They ended up walking in the same direction.

She says she doesn't know what he said.

He looked upset, like he had been crying.

Judge Judy asks Mr. Miller what he was upset about.

He says he wasn't upset.

He was just heading home.

He had been to see a band.

He is a music journalist.

He was observing the band.
