A Schoolyard Squabble Lands in Court
Imagine two former friends, now facing off in Judge Judy's courtroom.
Their mothers stand beside them.
This case is about a playground incident.

The Plaintiff Seeks Payment for Damaged Glasses
Marty Glenn is the plaintiff.
She is suing Katherine Harrison, the defendant.
Marty Glenn wants Katherine Harrison to pay for her son Parker's broken glasses.
The incident happened at school.
Parker and Katherine's son, Jordan, were involved.

Judge Judy Hears from the Boys
Judge Judy brings the boys, Parker and Jordan, to stand with their mothers.
She notes that the mothers were not present during the incident.
Parker and Jordan were 13 years old.
They had been friends for about four to six months.
The incident occurred during school.

Jordan's Account of the Playground Incident
Judge Judy asks Jordan to explain what happened.
Jordan was sitting on a slide during PE.
He was talking to his friends.
They had free time.
Parker approached him.
Parker picked up a handful of wood chips.
He threw them at Jordan.
Jordan told him to stop.
Parker threw another handful of wood chips.
Jordan then came down from the slide.
He walked up to Parker.
He told Parker to stop again.
Parker grabbed Jordan's hat.
He buried it in the trash.
Jordan says he had not argued with Parker that day.
He initially thought Parker was playing.
When Parker threw chips a second time, Jordan became agitated.
His friends were present.
They laughed at first.
Then they told Parker to stop.

Parker's Version of Events
Judge Judy then asks Parker for his side.
Parker admits he was "messing around" with Jordan.
Judge Judy clarifies that "messing around" means different things to different people.
She asks Parker to be specific.
Parker says they were "poking fun" at each other.
He admits to throwing wood chips at Jordan.
Jordan was on the slide.
Jordan then came down the slide.
Jordan started throwing wood chips back at Parker.
Parker says he was on the ground.
He then took Jordan's hat off his head.
He put it in the trash.

The Escalation of the Conflict
Parker states that Jordan started to get mad.
Parker then walked away from the playground area.
He went into a field.
Judge Judy points out that Jordan got mad when Parker put his hat in the garbage.
She asks if Jordan was telling him to stop.
Parker says Jordan got mad only after the hat was in the trash.
Judge Judy asks what Parker did immediately after grabbing the hat.
Parker says he ran around with it.
He ran around for about 30 seconds.
Jordan was chasing him, trying to get his hat back.
Parker then put the hat on top of the garbage.
He did not stuff it in.
Parker then walked away.
He thought it was almost time to go inside.
He estimates five to ten minutes passed.
Jordan did not follow him.
Jordan's friends did not follow him either.
Parker then returned to talk to his friends.
He saw another kid stuff the hat into the trash.

The Confrontation and the Glasses
Parker says Jordan then got "really mad."
Jordan asked Parker, "Do you wanna fight?"
Parker felt uncomfortable.
He nudged Jordan away.
Judge Judy asks Parker to demonstrate the nudge.
Parker shows a light push.
Parker clarifies that Jordan asked him if he wanted to fight.
Parker pushed Jordan.
Jordan then took Parker's glasses off his face.
He tore them.
He smashed them.
He threw them on the ground.
Jordan then left the area.
Parker went to pick up his glasses and backpack.
He intended to tell the principal.
Jordan then approached him again.
Jordan started to fight.
He started throwing punches.

Judge Judy's Ruling on the Glasses
Judge Judy asks Marty Glenn if she wants Katherine Harrison to pay for the glasses.
Marty Glenn confirms.
Judge Judy states, "That's not happening."
She tells Marty Glenn to tell Parker to get a job.
She says Parker should pay for his own glasses.
Judge Judy explains her reasoning.
She says Parker was the aggressor.
He was the initial aggressor.
He kept the conflict going.
She calls him a bully.
She says he got his "comeuppance."
Judge Judy concludes that Marty Glenn should pay for Parker's glasses.
She advises Marty Glenn to tell Parker not to be a bully.
The case is dismissed.
