A Marine's Generosity Leads to Courtroom Drama
Imagine trying to help someone in need.
Then imagine that act of kindness landing you in Judge Judy's courtroom.
That is the situation Mr. Elder, a Marine, finds himself in.
He says he likes to help people who have fallen on hard times.

The Homeless Defendant Arrives
Mr. McEntee confirms he was homeless.
He came to Mr. Elder's place from California on May 30th.
Mr. McEntee met Mr. Elder through a friend named Kevin.
Kevin was someone he met at Project Hope.

A Generous Offer
Mr. Elder paid for Mr. McEntee's travel from California to Oregon.
He even drove down to pick him up.
Mr. Elder also gave Mr. McEntee an acupuncture appointment.
Mr. McEntee expresses surprise at Mr. Elder's generosity.
He notes it "didn't seem right."
He says nobody goes out of their way like this man did.

Kevin's Story
Mr. McEntee states his friend Kevin was not at Mr. Elder's house when he arrived.
Kevin had been "kicked out" a month prior.
Mr. Elder had revoked a motorhome he bought for Kevin to stay in.

The Arrangement
The arrangement was for Mr. Elder to provide housing and food.
This was to help Mr. McEntee get on his feet.
Mr. Elder intended for Mr. McEntee to use a fixed-up truck.
This truck was for a landscaping business.
Mr. Elder clarifies he bought two trucks for Mr. McEntee.
He says Mr. McEntee was "picky" about the first one.

Judge Judy's Advice on Locks
Judge Judy notes Mr. Elder kept the truck after they separated.
The truck is not part of the complaint.
Judge Judy advises Mr. Elder to change his locks.
She suggests he do this every time he brings homeless people into his house.

A Marine's "Ministry"
Mr. Elder states he is a Marine.
He says he doesn't operate out of fear.
He calls his actions a "ministry."
He tells Judge Judy he only fears God.

The Relationship Changes
Mr. McEntee stayed with Mr. Elder from May 30th until August 9th.
He claims Mr. Elder started to change.
He says Mr. Elder was not good to him.
Mr. McEntee sought legal help through Mr. Elder's lawyer friend.
This was regarding his sister stealing his father, who has dementia.
Mr. McEntee clarifies he wanted his father back.
He says it was not about money, despite discussions of inheritance.

The Protective Order
Mr. McEntee filed for a protective order against Mr. Elder.
This was on August 19th.
He had already moved out of Mr. Elder's house by then.
Mr. McEntee's application stated Mr. Elder was not behaving rationally.
He claimed Mr. Elder was yelling and making hand movements.
Mr. McEntee confirms he was out of the house.
He says Mr. Elder told him it was "time to be on your own."

The $1,000 Request
Mr. Elder states Mr. McEntee asked for $1,000 after getting the pickup.
He also claims Mr. McEntee borrowed $200 from a friend.
Mr. McEntee allegedly used Mr. Elder's name for this loan.
This led to the termination of his residency.
The Plaintiff's Complaint
Mr. Elder's complaint is solely about the lawyer's fees.
These fees were for the protective order.
He calls the order "ridiculous."
Mr. Elder paid his attorney $888.
Mr. McEntee was never granted a final order of protection.
The Defendant's Counterclaim
Mr. McEntee's counterclaim is that Mr. Elder threw out his stuff.
He also claims Mr. Elder stole $250 from a jacket pocket.
Judge Judy questions why Mr. Elder would steal $250.
She points out he spent thousands helping Mr. McEntee.
Mr. McEntee insists his money was missing.
He says it was gone when his things were dropped off.
Judge Judy's Ruling
Judge Judy awards the plaintiff $888.
She dismisses the counterclaim.
