THIS EXCUSE DID NOT GO WELL IN COURT!

A Childcare Provider Sues for Unpaid Services
Imagine being a childcare provider.
You take care of a child.
Then you don't get paid.
That is the situation Diane Gillette finds herself in.
She is the plaintiff in this case.
She is suing Janelle Parker.
He is her former client.
Ms. Gillette is suing for unpaid childcare services.

The Defendant's Employment and Family Situation
Judge Judy asks Mr. Parker about his job.
He states he is a forklift operator.
He works for Real-time staff.
This means he does not have a permanent job.
Mr. Parker identifies the woman with him.
She is the mother of his child.
They have been separated for about a year and a half.
Their daughter is three years old.
Mr. Parker has joint legal custody.
He also has full physical custody of their daughter.
This arrangement started after their separation.

Previous Childcare Arrangements
Judge Judy asks about Mr. Parker's previous childcare.
Before Ms. Gillette, he used Fatima Childcare Service.
This was from September to October 2016.
Before Fatima, he took care of his daughter himself.
He was not working at that time.
Judge Judy asks how much he paid Fatima Childcare.
He struggles to answer.
He then states he paid $60 to $70 per week.
He admits he did not pay every week.
He was behind on payments.
Mr. Parker claims Fatima did not terminate service.
He says his daughter's teacher suggested Ms. Gillette.
Judge Judy suggests he was not paying Fatima.
He denies this.
He states he and Ms. Fatima agreed to start the Crystal Stairs program.

The Plaintiff's Account and Initial Payment
Ms. Gillette states she has been a licensed daycare provider since October 2016.
Mr. Parker started with her in November.
He paid her $25 for the first day.
He called her at 3:30 AM for emergency care.
Ms. Gillette confirms Mr. Parker never paid her after that initial $25.
She watched his daughter for "quite some time."

The Crystal Stairs Program Confusion
Ms. Gillette confirms she was supposed to fill out paperwork for the Crystal Stairs program.
This program provides government money for childcare.
Ms. Gillette states she went with Mr. Parker to an "appointment" for Crystal Stairs.
It was not an actual appointment.
A worker told them they needed to make one.
Ms. Gillette was confused.
Mr. Parker initially stated he was a single father fighting for custody.
However, the mother of his child was present at this meeting.
She says he told her he was fighting custody for his daughter.
She saw the mother there at the "alleged appointment."

The Duration and Schedule of Care
Ms. Gillette watched the child from November 29th until January 11th.
She calculates she watched the child for 10 days total.
Initially, Mr. Parker dropped his daughter off at 4:30 AM.
Ms. Gillette dropped her off at school at 12:00 PM.
School started at 12:30 PM.
This totaled about six and a half hours of care.
Later, Mr. Parker's job hours changed.
He started bringing her at 3:30 AM.
Ms. Gillette had three other children in her care.
One was a four-year-old named Donovan.
She is paid $25 cash per day for Donovan.
This is $125 per week.

Judge Judy's Frustration with Excuses
Judge Judy dismisses Mr. Parker's attempts to discuss Crystal Stairs.
She emphasizes that he used the service.
He got paid for his work.
But he did not pay for childcare.
Mr. Parker repeatedly tries to interject.
He mentions Ms. Gillette "agreeing to something."
Judge Judy warns him.
If he says another word, she will give the plaintiff what she asks for.
She tells him she does not care about Crystal Stairs.
She says he ate the steak.
He went to work.
He got paid.
She tells him he takes his children to daycare and does not pay.
She says he did not pay Fatima.
He took his child to Ms. Gillette.
She watched his child for 10 days.
He did not pay her either.
Mr. Parker insists Ms. Gillette agreed to something.
Judge Judy tells him to pay careful attention.
She knows what he does.
She warns him again.
If he says another word, she will rule for the plaintiff.

The Calculation of Damages
Ms. Gillette confirms her weekly rate is $125.
For 10 days of care, this is the equivalent of two weeks.
The amount owed is $250.
