THIS EXCUSE DID NOT GO WELL IN COURT!
A Former Husband Seeks Bail Money Repayment
Imagine a courtroom where past relationships and present debts collide.
That is exactly what happens in this Judge Judy case.
Mr. LaBresh, the plaintiff, is suing his former wife, Molly LaBresh, and her mother, Anita Wilms.
He claims he bailed out Molly after her arrest.
He says both Molly and her mother agreed to be responsible for the bail money.

The Plaintiff's Claim
Mr. LaBresh states that the initial bail was $1,000.
He clarifies that Anita Wilms did not agree to pay the bill directly.
Instead, she promised to communicate to ensure Molly paid.
Molly, he says, promised to pay the bill.
Mr. LaBresh is seeking $4,786, which he later corrects to $4,871.

Molly LaBresh's Arrest History
Judge Judy asks Molly LaBresh about her arrest.
Molly states she was arrested for petty theft in 2008.
Judge Judy asks if that is the arrest in question.
Molly says no.
She was arrested in 2013 for a probation violation.
This violation was drug-related, a "dirty test."
She was facing about 180 days in jail.
Her longest prior incarceration was about a week.

A Complicated Past
Molly and Mr. LaBresh legally separated in 2001.
Their divorce finalized a year or two later.
They have two children together.
The children lived with Mr. LaBresh.
Molly states the children lived with her until 2005.
That was when she was arrested for DUI.
Mr. LaBresh was then awarded custody.

Child Support and Disability
Judge Judy asks about child support.
Molly states she does pay child support.
It was just ordered.
She was paying $100 a month in 2014.
This was $50 per child.
The money came directly from her disability.
Molly has physical disabilities, including back problems and sciatic nerve damage.
She receives approximately $928 a month from disability.
She applied for it in 1999 and was granted it in 2004.
Molly is 49 years old.

Judge Judy Questions Drug Use
Judge Judy asks Molly why she didn't pay the bail.
Molly says she didn't have the money.
She claims $928 a month is barely enough to live on.
Judge Judy points out Molly was arrested for drug use in 2013.
Molly confirms she was using drugs.
Judge Judy states that if Molly had money for drugs, she had money to start paying back the bail.
Molly responds that drug addiction is an illness.
She says she couldn't help herself.
She has been clean and sober for six months.
Judge Judy suggests Molly could now use the money she spent on drugs to pay back the bail.
Molly clarifies she used prescription drugs.
Judge Judy emphasizes that Molly was still using taxpayer money for her drug habit.
She notes that Molly now has that money left over.

Anita Wilms's Perspective
Anita Wilms, Molly's mother, speaks to Judge Judy.
She acknowledges her daughter has had a troubled life.
She describes Molly and Mr. LaBresh's marriage as troubled.
She states they both did drugs together.
Anita claims she did not know Molly went to jail this time.
She also says she didn't know someone bailed her out.
She expresses confusion about why she is in court.

A Surprising Revelation
Judge Judy asks if Molly and Mr. LaBresh were living together in 2013.
Molly confirms they were cohabitating in an apartment in Tahoe.
This was after their divorce was finalized.
Molly slept in the living room on an air mattress.
She explains she had bad credit.
She had difficulty finding her own apartment.
She couldn't come up with a deposit.
She stayed with Mr. LaBresh and the children for six months to a year.

Drug Use While Living with Children
Judge Judy asks how the probation violation came about.
Molly states she visited her probation officer.
She was drug tested and came up dirty.
Judge Judy asks if Molly was using drugs while living with her former husband and children.
Molly confirms she was.
She states Mr. LaBresh was not using drugs, other than pot.
Molly tested dirty for methamphetamines.
Judge Judy asks if Mr. LaBresh was being kind by letting her live there.
Molly says yes.
She also states she was paying half the rent, $450 a month.
Judge Judy believes Molly's claim about paying rent.

The Plaintiff's Evidence Under Scrutiny
Judge Judy asks Mr. LaBresh for proof of payments for the last three months.
She also requests information from the bail bondsman.
Mr. LaBresh provides a document.
Officer Bird is asked to read a phone number from the document.
The number is 7147714.
Officer Bird states it is not a number from this country.
Case Dismissed
Judge Judy dismisses the entire case.
She points out Mr. LaBresh claimed $4,786 was owed.
The document he provided shows a current balance of $1,588.
The phone number on the document is non-existent in this country.
Mr. LaBresh explains it is from a collection agency for Aladdin bail bonds.
He says it went into collections and he started paying it.
He mentions other debts he has to pay.
He states their child is in jail and they have to pay $15 a day.
He believes he will have to pay it himself.
Judge Judy states that the government will pay for it.
She explains that both Molly and Mr. LaBresh are supported by the government.
