THIS EXCUSE DID NOT GO WELL IN COURT!

A Loan for Car Repairs Turns Sour
Imagine a courtroom where family ties are tested.
A godmother and her god-daughter face off.
The dispute is over a car repair.

The Plaintiff Seeks Repayment
Delores Ballard is the plaintiff.
She is suing her god-daughter, Kelly Goolsbee.
Delores claims she loaned Kelly money for car repairs.
She says she gave Kelly a credit card.
The limit for the repair was $500.
Delores applied for the card in May.
She gave it to Kelly in July.
Delores wanted to ensure Kelly could pay her back.
Kelly was working at the time.

The Defendant's Car Troubles
Kelly's car was not running.
It had broken down.
She had put it in for repair.
Kelly did not have enough money to get it out.
Judge Judy asked if the car was in the repair shop.
Kelly initially said it wasn't until Delores gave her the card.
Then she corrected herself.
She said it was in the shop before.
She needed the credit card to get it out.
Kelly then clarified she was waiting for more money.
The car was not initially in the shop.
When Delores gave her the credit card, she took it to the shop.
Kelly then stated it was in the shop before the credit card.
She needed the card to get it out.
She said not initially.
The repair shop first quoted $1,300.
Kelly had that amount.
But the charges increased once the car was at the shop.
She then needed additional funds.

The Godmother-God-Daughter Relationship
Kelly said she told Delores about the problem.
They talked almost every day.
Kelly referred to Delores as her godmother.
She emphasized they were not just friends.
Judge Judy confirmed they were not related.
Kelly stated Delores gave her the credit card.
She used it to get her car out.
Kelly then claimed Delores told her it was a gift.
She cited their long history.
Kelly had known Delores for 14 or 15 years.
She mentioned Delores's four major surgeries.
These included knee, back, and neck surgeries.
Kelly said she was there for Delores through it all.
She contrasted this with Delores's biological children.
They were nowhere to be found during the surgeries.

Judge Judy Cuts Off the Excuse
Judge Judy interrupted Kelly.
She said she had heard that story before.
It is usually an excuse not to return money.
Kelly denied it was an excuse.
Judge Judy reiterated her point.
She said Kelly used the credit card to its maximum.
It was at least $500.
There was also a little interest.
Now Delores wanted her money back.
Judge Judy suggested Kelly was claiming it was a gift.
She implied Kelly felt Delores should have made it a gift.
This was because Kelly was so good to her.
Kelly denied this.
Judge Judy asked why Kelly's care during surgeries was important.
Kelly said Delores kept telling her she would do something nice.
Delores would take care of her.
She said Delores felt others only wanted her money.
Judge Judy asked for the information.

The $500 Limit
Kelly then clarified what Delores said.
Delores gave her the credit card.
She said there was a $500 limit.
Anything over $500, Kelly was responsible for.
This happened in July.

The September Call
Judge Judy asked about the first call for money.
Delores likely got her statement in September.
Kelly said Delores started calling around September 1st.
When Delores called, she said the bill was due.
Kelly responded, "Okay."
Kelly believed she only owed $30.
This was for going over the limit.

The October Call
Judge Judy asked when Delores called again.
Kelly said it was a month or two later.
She specified months later.
It was in October.
Delores said it was past the 10th.
She said the bill was due.
Kelly's response was, "What bill?"
